Another wonderful week

Hola!

Okay so I realized I never told you all where I am! I am serving in the city of Temuco, in an area called Caupolican. It is in the central of this bigger city, so that's nice cause we have plenty of stores and even a mall where we usually go on pdays. This week has been great. We have had SOOO much help from the members of our ward, it's amazing!! Like I think 6 different people went out with us! That's so amazing!! We had 14 lessons with a member present this week, just one short of our goal for 15 a week!! Everyone back home, seriously help the missionaries!! They need it and it is much appreciated. We have a great ward and a wonderful Bishop. He's young, only about 35, and he and his wife have three young kids. They're sooo cute, and Bishop is the sweetest. He really cares and is involved in the missionary work with us. It's great.

Wanted to say thank you to Brittany Vardakas, Elaine Codd, and Brooke Carpenter for your letters!! I got them all this week and it made me soo happy. I wish I could write you all back right away but I have like no time ever, haha so I am sorry but I love you all and I promise I will get around to writing you back as soon as I can :)

Domitila is ready for her baptism this Saturday!!! My first baptism!! I'm so excited!!!! During one of our lessons with her, one of her daughters who is deaf and mute was there, and she has been there for lessons in the past... But she was all excited and ¨told¨ the family she wants to be baptized too! Haha no way!! They have a family like sign language to communicate. But um, yeah, we're super excited. Oh, this is the family that lives right in front of us. Like our little house is in back of theirs. They're great. I'm so excited for them! So we will start teaching Delila (the deaf one) more this week. It will be an interesting experience, we will probably teach a lot with pictures and movies and need the help of the family to communicate. But Rosa, another of Domatila's daughters who is a member, told us how much she loved us the other day... She said, As much as I've loved all the missionaries who have lived here over the years, you two are special. I feel like we knew each other in the pre-earth life and you told me you would come here and help my family. Awww, it was so sweet. I am happy to be able to help such a great family come together in the Gospel!! The gospel is all about families, and it makes me smile to get to be a part of their story:)

Those who can attend the temple, do it often! I miss it so much. It is amazing. We had a conference with Elder Corbridge of the Seventy the other week, and it was seriously amazing. He talked about how the most important thing in this life is the Gift of the Holy Ghost. He talked about how all good things in our lives come from the Spirit- joy, peace, love, sealing of families in temples, everything. So the most important thing is that we live our lives so we can receive the Holy Ghost and keep Him with us. The Spirit is the most important element in missionary work. We would be so lost without it, and no one would ever care what we had to say. The Spirit so many times softens the hearts of the people and touches them. I am so grateful to have this calling and to have the Spirit with me all the time.

Well, out of time. Thank you all for your love and prayers. I am so so so happy. I can't even tell you how happy. I have never been happier in my life. I love this gospel and the joy it brings to me and others. I know it is true!!

Love you tons,
Hermana Danielle Anderton

Scripture of the week:
He is the light and life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, an also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death. (Mosiah 16:9, speaking of Jesus Christ)

Me gustaría orar...

Hola!!

Okay sooo yeah I have ten minutes to write this email! Ahh!! I have to send President Martinez an update every week, and I wrote back to Mom and Dad first, of course... Soo yeah this will be a shorter email but esta bien!! (it´s fine).

So to explain my subject heading this week... I think it was Tuesday night/Wednesday in the middle of the night. I had a cough (oh yeah I was just sick for like a week. But I am better now) and I was coughing in the middle of the night. It woke up Hermana Hamblin and this is the conversation we had:

Hna. H: Hermana?
Me: Yeah?
Hna. H: Me gustaría orar. (I would like to pray)
Me: Right now?
Hna. H: ...silence..
Me: It´s the middle of the night...
Hna. H looks at the clock, and figures out it's 2:30am. I said yeah, you can pray in a few hours. Hahaha. It was funny. This will make more sense if you know that we pray together every night before bed and every morning when we wake up, so that's why she was offering to pray. But it was hilarious.

Anyway, since this email is gonna be short I will just make a few quick notes and send it off!
1. Everyone, you can still send me dear elders in my mission! It's still free, I just won't get them as often. But yeah go to dearelder.com and then click the Chile Concepcion South mission. And you can go ahead and write me there if you don't want to send a real letter!

2. If you DO send me a letter, it should be fine. But if anyone happens to decide to send me a package, put Jesus pictures on it, like on the seals of the box because sometimes people like to open packages and see if there's anything good inside. But they don't want to cut through Jesus or virgin Mary or anything, so it will be safer that way.

3. I gave a talk in sacrament meeting yesterday, yes in Espanol, and it went really well! The Spirit definitely helped me through it. My Spanish is pretty good, but I was definitely doing better than I could have done on my own. So it was great :)

4. Here when people sneeze, they say salud (health) for the first sneeze, dinero (money) for the second one, and amor (love) for the third one. Know how I always sneeze in three's? Well, not here I don't! Just two. Hahaha, because I can't have amor now anyway... So I guess dinero would be better anyway :)

5. We were contacting and we met this girl Stephanie. She told us we could stop by her house and teach her family. We went to her house and her dad didn't want us to come in, but we asked him if there was anyone he knew who we could visit. He sent us next door and we met a lady named Soledad. She had a dog in the front yard and we went and knocked on the door, when she opened she was surprised. She asked us "How did you get in?" She told us the dog always always growls and barks at everyone that walks by. But he just sat there and smiled at us. We smiled and Hermana Hamblin said "It's because we're amigos." and then I said "It's because we're representatives of Jesus Christ." :) That was fun. Turns out she's met with lots of missionaries before, but never got baptized. Who knows, maybe now she's ready.

6. Same day we had a miracle with an inactive family we visited. The mom spent a long time telling us their story, she really opened up to us. We shared a scripture with her, "And, if ye keep my commandments and endure to the end, ye shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God." We asked her what she needed to do to have eternal life and right away she was like "I know I need to go back to church. I'll go next Sunday." Wooow, so cool!! They've been inactive for like 7 years. So I really hope she does come back.

7. We set a baptisimal date with one of our investigators, Domatila!! She's 80 and is soo sweet. Two of her daughters are members and Domatila has been learning about the church for a few months now. She was scared to get baptized because she's been Catholic her whole life, but I was able to share my conversion story with her and promise her that if she has an answer from God that this church is right, she has nothing to worry about. She says she has her answer and she will be getting baptized on the 28th :)!!

8. One last funny story then I gotta go. The word for umbrella is paragua. I brought mine yesterday cause in the morning there were clouds, but after church it was sunny. So when we went to lunch at a member's house they were like kinda laughing at me cause it was super hot and sunny. Then they said well you can use your paragua para sol. Para means for.... LIGHTBULB flicked on in my head, para AGUA, like the umbrella is for rain, or it can be for sun, para SOL. I was like so excited I realized and they were laughing so hard they almost cried. Hahaha. It was great.

Well, gotta go. We had a really great week, went running this morning and cleaned the house which was fun. Yes my house is teeny tiny but that's okay. I like having to light a match outside and turn on the gas to have hot water. I'm a missionary in Chile, it's an experience! In all honesty we could fit our entire house into my parlor back home. But it's okay! Day 1 I was like oh no... But I am already used to it and we have all we need. :) Hermana Hamblin and I are doing great, we work hard and are seeing miracles as a result. Don't worry, we have our fun too. :)

Love you all so much! Ciao!!

Con amor,
Hermana Anderton

(Will try to send more pictures next week)

Chile Chile Chile!

HOLA!!!!

Oh my gosh so I love Chile. I am seriously so blessed to be here! It is beautiful and the people are even more beautiful!! They are so warm and loving and I just love them so much. My trainer is Hermana Hamblin. She is GREAT!!! She has been here in Chile for just about 4 months, so not that long! But she is a really great missionary and is ready to train already. We work hard, so hard everyday. We walk a ton! I have blisters and my feet always hurt, but its okay :) This is what I signed up for. The first two days, Wednesday and Thursday, were really hot. Friday and Saturday were great, and it rained Sunday and today. It's raining a lot today. But that's okay. We are pretty good at staying positive. Well, Hermana Hamblin is better than me but I'm working on it. We have been working hard and have been blessed for it. We are seeing miracles already!!! I don't have time to write about everything this week. Sooo much happens every day. But I will tell you all about yesterday cause yesterday was wonderful.

So. Well first I need to mention Saturday real quick. We met this older man, Miguel, on the street and started talking to him, asking him how he was doing and such. He said not so well, and we talked to him about the gospel some more and told him we knew that life was hard but that through the gospel things can be much better. We gave him a Book of Mormon and invited him to church. So, back to Sunday...Went to church and got to meet the ward!!! I'd already met a few of the members throughout the week. But so it was fast Sunday and they had my share my testimony in the beginning of the meeting so everyone could get to know me a bit. Annddd guess what? Miguel came to church!! Ah! It was sooo exciting. We invite probably at least 20 people a day to come to church, but when someone actually comes that's way exciting. So he came and really liked it. After Sacrament meeting he stayed for Sunday school. Nacho, a 19 year old who is going on his mission to Argentina next month was the teacher. And it was only me and mi compañera, and Miguel in the class. So it was kind of a mini lesson for Miguel. Then, during class, Hermana Hamblin invited him to be baptized! Hahah I was like no way did she really just do that? Way to go compañera! Yes, she did do it, and yes, he agreed! He said like if he continues attending church and learning more and stuff, yes he will be baptized. SOOO we have a fecha (date) for him to be baptized on the 28th of this month!!! We are meeting with him again on Thursday to teach him again. So that was great. After church we went to lunch at this awesome family's house. They made suuuper good food. My favorite meal in Chile so far I think.. Chicken and rice and peas, but chicken rice and peas like 10x better than I've had in America. Soo good. They also had bread of course and this stuff called pevre I think? It's like salsa it was great. So an awesome meal, then we went to knock some doors and stuff. We went to visit this older lady, Ana, and when we got there she was crying! We were like oh no are you okay. Turns out her granddaughter has an autoimmune disease where like one side of her face is kinda falling? Like her eye is drooping and one side is just disfigured and they don't know what's wrong. She's like 4, it's really sad. We read scriptures with her and prayed with her, and she said she felt a lot better after. So that was really nice to be able to help her when she needed it. We were knocking more doors on our way home and we saw two ladies talking outside. I felt like we should go talk to them and we did... They were nice. One of the ladies, we found out like 10 minutes into the conversation, has two family members in the hospital right now! There was a car accident and one of her family members died and two more are in the hospital. Ahh. So sad. We talked a lot, to her and her friend. I think we were able to give them some comfort as well. It was a really neat experience. More happened yesterday but I don't really have time to write about it. But just try to believe me when I say we are literally seeing and being a part of miracles here. The other day we felt like we needed to knock a street, and turns out the first house we knocked the lady is a member but her husband doesn't like the church. We invited her to a ward activity we're having on saturday and she wants to come. Then later we met this guy, Mario, whose best friend is on a mission right now. And a couple other people who were just great, all in like 30 minutes. It was amazing. We are seriously being led to find those people who are ready for the Gospel. Yes, sometimes people don't want to talk to us or aren't super nice. But I don't worry too much about that because we have so many other great things and people to focus on. :)

The Spanish is still going really well. I was expecting to get here and not understand anything. But in fact I can understand a lot. I'm very grateful. Hermana Hamblin and I only speak Spanish outside of our house, which is sometimes difficult when our brains are tired, but it is definitely helping. The people here are shocked at how well I can speak and understand. I'm working hard, but it's definitely a blessing from the Lord. I know that for sure. I know I would not be able to understand and speak this much on my own. Oh. AWESOME news. They have Milka here!! Ahhhh the chocolate I fell in love with in Europe. I haven't bought any yet. But I will some day soon... :) Other awesome news, my compañera loves to run. Yay!! When I told her the first day I liked to run she was so happy haha it was great. We've run once but my shins hurt the next day, so we're gonna take it easy. Oh, also I'm giving a talk in Sacrament meeting next sunday. 10 minutes in Español... haha we will see how that goes. But I'm excited.

Anyway I'm out of time. But everyone, know that I am absolutely loving it here, and I am well taken care of by my wonderful compañera and so many of the Chileans. I love Chile and I love my mission!!
Praying for you all.

Love love love,
Hermana Anderton :)

Leaving on a jet plane!

Hola!!

Yes, the time has FINALLY come. I'm going to CHILE!!! I leave the MTCMonday morning at 4. The MTC has been an amazing experience. I honestly cannot believe how much I have learned and grown in such a short time. The first night at the MTC, you go in a group and meet an investigator. More experienced missionaries come in and begin teaching, kind of get to know the investigator, pray, talk a little bit about the church, and then they are invited to leave and the new missionaries take over. They answer questions as a group and teach a lesson together. Well, this week, Hermana McKay and I were invited to be the missionaries who start it out for the new missionaries. It was a really cool experience. Before it started, we were in the sound booth thing and I was just watching all the missionaries on their first day and remembering my first day November 2, 2011. I had tears in my eyes as I thought back to that day, and how far I've come since then. I have truly been taught, shaped, and molded by the Lord. I have seen it so clearly as I am given different experiences. I have seen how I am learning to be better, to be more patient and humble. I of course still have a long way to go. But it has just been so incredible to see the changes in myself already. The Lord will do great things with each of us if we let Him. I am still in complete awe that I am here. A little over 4 years ago, I knew next to nothing about this Gospel. But in the Lord's love and mercy I have been able to find the truth, and I have been able to be strong and now be a missionary for Him. What an incredible honor. I want to live every single day of my mission to the absolute fullest- serve with ALL my heart, might, mind, and strength. Lose myself in the service of others. Anyway, I'm rambling. But already I am so so so grateful for this opportunity. And I can't wait to find out what comes next!!!

I hope you all have a happy new year! Weird that it's new years eve today, oh happy birthday Brittany Vardakas if you ever read this! I love you! Dad, watch Sherlock Holmes for me, I heard it was good. I don't know the next time I'll get to email... Not til my first P-day in Chile, and I have no idea when that is. So, savor these three emails you got in one week, hopefully they'll last y'all till next time :) Everyone who is in OC go to the Walk/Run for Ruby Jane Tayloron January 7th!! I don't know much more about it than the date but find out and GO :) Okay so no more dear elders, only send me letters in Chile.

LOVE YOU ALL!!! Parents, I'll talk to you on MONDAY! Can't wait!!!!
xoxox

Con mucho amor,
